SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
Throughout the centuries, spiritual directors have served as mentors and guides, helping men and women find the presence and power of God in their lives. Through spiritual direction people strive to deepen their relationship with the Divine Other whom Jesus taught us to call Our Father.
Spiritual direction is NOT therapy or counseling – it a prayerful process in which two believers, from different perspectives, share the wonders of God's love.
People who seek out spiritual direction may be looking for deeper intimacy with God, or they may be struggling with a particular spiritual question – (What should I do with my life? Is my current relationship leading me to God?); they may be confused, or lonely, or even angry at God; or want to develop a richer prayer life.
As a spiritual director, my role is to help you to discern God’s Spirit sometimes subtly, and sometimes not so subtly, touching your life, knocking on the door of your heart, and relentlessly luring you to Himself.
My role is to help you see the signs of God’s presence within you and all around you, and to decipher their meaning. I will help you deepen your prayer life, and discern how to respond to God’s promptings in your soul. The goal of direction is ultimately become an ever more loving person - in touch and one with the presence of God within us - (God who IS love).
If we were to work together in spiritual direction, we would meet approximately once a month for about an hour, though we may decide to meet more frequently when we first start the process. We will begin with wherever issue is of concern to you – or on whatever spiritual questions concern you. In that sense, you set the pace. I will hold whatever you share with me in spiritual direction as strictly confidential.
